Turning the "Musts" Upside Down

Mindfulness Monday: This week is about seeing your life from the hangman's perspective. Things may look weird at first but give it time it will become normal.

Welcome Beautiful Beings of Light to Mindfulness Monday. Your mindfulness practice from Monday to Monday.

This is a general reading, so please only take what resonates with you and leave the rest for who may need to pick it up.

A Different Perspective

Before we start this reading, I'd like to note that there is a very heavy emphasis in this reading about turning and looking at the world upside down from the eyes of the hanged man. Seeing the world from a new perspective.

There was a psychologist [George Stratton] who wore glasses that turned the world upside down for eight days. There was originally a disorientation that was created by viewing the world through these glasses.

By the third day, the world righted itself and everything that was upside down appeared normal.

Upon taking the glasses off, the world was upside down again and it took three days for the world to right itself.

I think that this is a very great analogy on when we are healing and facing fears and going through a process of evolving ourselves. That the world can be very disorienting, feel weird, and uncontrollable until our body re-acclimates itself to seeing the world as normal.

We just have to keep wearing the glasses.

Roots of Fear

Which leads us into our first card. The first card is Overcome Fear.

This card for me is very much indicating that it is not about overcoming fear.

We often hear, “You just have to face your fears.” “You just have to overcome your fears.”

What if it wasn't about facing your fears?

But actually...

Sitting with your fears, acknowledging them, and doing it anyways. It's at this point you are not overcoming your fears but actually working with them to understand why you're preventing yourself from stepping forward.

When we get down to the roots of what we are afraid of, we can understand and heal a part of ourselves in a way we wouldn't have allowed ourselves to before.

What comes to mind is public speaking.

A lot of the times when we're afraid of public speaking, it's because somebody has shut down the way that we talk. It created a delusion within our mind that we, or a story within our mind, that state that we are unknowledgeable, that what we have to say...is unimportant.

Speaking in front of a large crowd would be very, would strike a lot of fear within us and anxiety.

But if we get down to the root of why we are thinking that it is so scary. If we start to understand how we were raised, how we were treated, that made us scared to share our voice. We can sit with our fears and have our fears help push us forward instead of holding us back.

Roots of Resilience

Which leads into the next card, Resilience.

This Resilience card, some of us who have been told we are resilient for far too long get really resentful about this being told that we're resilient.

So how can we flip resilience on its head?

We flip resilience on its head by looking at it not as a we have to do it, but as finding the third option. Seeing the alternative route we can take.

It's not resilience.

It's creative thinking.

It's thinking outside of the box.

It's critical thinking.

Becoming resilient in life is not about pushing through things that are too hard but finding the alternative way. To see the third option instead of continuing to push for something that is just going to create more pain.

Roots Willpower

Which leads us into our next card, which is Willpower.

The Willpower card is coming in as a reflection of what willpower you're holding on to.

Why are you choosing to push through things?

Is it a story mind conditioning that's told you that this is what you need?

Is the goal that you have to get to, and this is the only way the goal is going to be achieved?

Or is your goal actually heart-centered want you want to reach in life?

Is the outcome exactly what you want to perceive, if there's a lack of willpower in achieving that goal? Because you have to do this or you have to do that, and you have to follow the rules and play the game.

Perhaps it's time to look at what willpower is saying, turning it on its head. Why is it so difficult to find the willpower to carry through?

Perhaps it's because you think differently.

You are an entrepreneur or an out-of-the-box thinker or a creator, somebody who is a star peg that's been trying to fit into a square hole.

This lack of willpower: to find any, to finish your goal, to get to the end of what you want to happen, is less about your inability to do it. But your inability to follow the path that other people stamped out.

What way can you create willpower for yourself so that you can thrive instead of just continuing to push through?

Mindfulness Practice

The mindfulness practice for this week is going to be looking at things upside down, or from a different perspective.

Maybe write it down on a piece of paper, what you're going through, what you're struggling through, or problems that are persisting, then flip it upside down.

How silly does it look when you're looking at it upside down?

What alternative options are there when you see it in a new light?

It may look weird for three days, but perhaps if you allow yourself to adjust to it from this new perspective. It might just become normal, and you can find a different path.
